This is all about to change...
If interested in converting your vehicle. read Popular Mechanics article on converting to natural gas, CNG vehicle fueling.

CNG gas prices, according to Popular Mechanics vary from 79 cents a gallon to $1.50 Company called NatGasCar is reported developing a home compressor system capable of an hour fill for $3,500 target price. Compressor stations for gasoline stations cost around $750,000 per station. problem is Natural gas piped in is 0.5 psi, Vehicle use is 3600 psi..
The Honda device is the only home compressor currently and it is $4,500. but the Feds kick in a reported $1,000 subsidy.
However, it takes 16 hours to compress a tank full.
If the other new compressor company succeeds at the eight hours fill and $3,500 ...........after subsidy would be $2,500.
Chrysler has announced plans to offer CNG pickups, in 2012, primarily to fleets initially.
Chrysler had previously stated that additional cost for a natural gas engine would be $3,000 compared with $3,300 for diesel, and $8,000 for electric.
We see a Ford announcement that the 2012 Super Duty Pickup truck will offer a $315 setup kit to convert the base engine to run on Compressed natural gas rather than gasoline. We see no other activity by Ford on CNG.
There are a reported 12.7 million vehicles operating around the world as of 2010 so this is not a new technology or development.
Big change is the ever increasing gasoline prices and the huge drop in natural gas prices as supply in U.S. from fracking wells came on line and ongoing supply hugely expanded.
Consensus around the country seems to be that CNG has been running (before the price drop) at least 40% less cost for vehicle use then gasoline with much more in most areas.
MIT Study on natural gas said that if buses, urban delivery trucks, taxis and government and business fleets switched to CNG would be the equivalent of what the Alaska pipeline could supply the lower 48.
In other words, that CNG use alone would cut need for oil imports that much.
There has been a huge drive to get a subsidy to switch all long haul trucks to natural gas, which is an even larger user.
UPS is puttng 50 more long haul Trucks on the road with LPG (liquefied natural gas). *UPS already has 1,100 natural gas powered vehicles in service including CNG.
Kenworth manufactured trucks.
Understand the difference in LNG (liquefied)used for long haul trucks and CNG (compressed) used for autos.
Navistar reported starting long haul LNG truck manufacturing.
The company Pilot-Flying has 550 Retail properties in 47 states and has worked out an agreement with Navistar, for 70 new natural gas refueling stations around the country.
Navistar guarantees a price differential between natural gas and diesel to buyers for a period of years. Navistar states no government subsidies or incentives are required for their program to work.
Liquefied natural gas must be kept in insulated tanks since it needs to be cooled. Long haul trucks are ideal for LPG since they use it more quickly and it allows a 600 mile range for long haul trucks since it stores more compactly.
We see reports *(we have not verified) that the Honda Civic qualifies for a $4,000 federal tax credit and a $3,000 rebate, plus different rebates from some states. This offsets partially the higher cost of the CNG fueled civic.
Also reported is a $1,000 rebate on the expensive in your garage fueling system, down from what was a $2,000 subsidy so these figures change constantly and have to be updated.
Many CNG cars around the world are bi-fuel, gasoline or CNG. The Honda Civic was peaked for natural gas and has higher compression than a gasoline car.
As CNG becomes more common, station availability will spring up everywhere and truck stops will likely soon be forced by demand to stock both LPG and CNG which will mean huge investments for those with hundreds of truck stops.
This is the only fuel that makes sense now and has a future.
Battery charging stations are a dead issue for investors.
Hydrogen and swamp gas are not cost effective with natural gas which is now available or can be in almost unlimited quantity?s with the shale areas in 36 states, and with that much supply and competition, price will not be out of hand.
Oil world wide will be in short supply as Asia doubles demand in the next few years. However, U.S. can be self sufficient in a few years by not just increasing oil production dramatically which is already happening but wising up and switching to natural gas as the primary fuel.
Natural gas is the cleanest fuel and that pretense is no longer valid for alternative fuels. The faster the switch to natural gas, the faster air pollution problem is solved. 20% of city transit systems had, because of improvement of air pollution already switched to natural gas, well before the price drop.
